Project Goals
The Climate Change Hub, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kozani and its founding partner Resilient Cities Catalyst, implemented the Energopolis programme with the support of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM). The initiative aimed to strengthen the resilience of the Municipality of Kozani within the context of the energy transition and to promote the creation of green jobs. The programme was implemented from May 2023 to June 2024, leading to valuable insights regarding the prioritisation of intervention sectors in the city’s energy transition.
Kozani is one of the cities that has signed the European Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, Kozani is a full member of the EU Green City Accord, part of the ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability network, and a member of the newly formed Network of Municipalities and Regions for Climate Action (Climattica).
The Energopolis programme focused on identifying and exploring one or more transformative projects in Kozani, beginning with the transition to clean energy. As part of the programme, several meetings were organised with the Municipality of Kozani, alongside a series of interactive workshops.
Programme Activities:
- An online seminar held on April 8, 2024, titled:
“Buildings, Society and Net-Zero Emissions: How Can We Reach Our Goal?” - An online seminar on June 20, 2024, titled:
“Empowering Greek Municipalities: Networking, International Expertise and Tools for the Green Transition.” - A two-day interactive workshop in Kozani, bringing together municipal leaders, local community members, and key strategic stakeholders. The aim was to co-develop future project scenarios for the city, further supporting Kozani’s transition to clean energy and urban resilience. The workshop focused on the path to climate neutrality and digital transformation by 2030, promoting socially just development models for a climate-neutral and smart future. Participants followed a carefully designed methodology, working in breakout sessions and plenary discussions to shape advanced scenarios for urban development and resilience in Kozani.
